The rhyme is commonly used to put a child to sleep for bedtime, and was used in Victor Herbent's burlesque operetta "Wizard of the Nile" in 1895. More recently, the rhyme was also referenced in Disney's "Pinocchio," Madonna's "Lucky Star," Metallica's "King Nothing," and the movie "8 mm."
